tone
A tone is a single frequency A-440 Hz. The waveform for a tone can be a sine, square, sawtooth, or triangle waveform.
timbre
Timbre is different in the flute and oboe although they play the same tones because of harmonics. Harmonics are higher frequencies that accompany the tone.
fields
The tone, or the fundamental frequency, sounds differently with waveform shapes. The changes are due to louder harmonic patterns.
